xx funeral for Nigel
« Thread started on: Jun 4th, 2008, 5:13pm »

Nigel's body had been left in the church for about 2 weeks. Strangely the body diddnt smell. In fact the body hasnt even rotted yet. The priest paid no attention as this had sometimes happened before.

So the funeral went on as schedualed. Nigel's funeral was an open casket. With a beautiful arrangement of flowers around the coffin. Nigel's face looks peaceful almost like their was no struggle. This took a great deal of work on the morticians part.

Seward sat in the back of the church. The good doctor had noticed the funeral was empty. He diddnt know Nigel. The least he could do however was pay his respects. His need for blood had decreased for a while. This was because he had begun using blood transfusions. To keep himself from becoming a monster.

Elaina had not intended to go to Nigel's funeral, hell, she could barely remember his death. Actually, Elaina was going to the church to do her usual pray, then curse, pray, then curse. This, in part, was because Elaina couldn't make up her mind about wheter or not she needed faith or not. It was a tough call for her to make.

When she saw the casket Elaina thought that she should probably leave, but since the casket was open she could see exactly who was in it. Nigel. She didn't know why she was so surprised. Elaina should have figured he would have invited death into his life and accepted it with arms wide open. Nigel, unlike Elaina, had fought for the betterment of Clauden.

Slowly Elaina walked up to the open casket. She was enraged that no one had even come to pay repects to a man that had been so willing to help Clauden. At the same time Elaina felt a certain part of her that mourned his loss. Sure this part came at a bad time, but she welcomed it. For once Elaina felt the very fram of her former self breaking in half and crumbling to the gound.

Elaina leaned slightly on the casket so that she could feel as if she were speaking to Nigel privately. "You were so stupid. So brave, but so stupid. You gave up your life for people that don't even give a damn about your funeral... that's so stupid, Nigel." She said in a tender tone, not at all as cruel as it might have sounded.

"At one point, Nigel, I thought you loved me, and boy did that scare the hell out of me. wasn't ready for that because I was stupid too. I was too ambitious and in the end I'm sure you knew that." Elaina lowered her head to hide the tears. "Dammit, Nigel, you were supposed to be the live one. The good guy is supposed to live, remember? I wasn't good. You were."

For a moment Elaina didn't know what else to say. She knew she hadn't said all she wanted to say, but there was something else. "I-I think had the circumstances been... different..." She lowered her voice to a solomn whisper, "I could have loved you too... but then I-I-I met your stupid brother and it was too late for us."

Now Elaina was more furious at herself. "I promise, Nigel, not to be stupid anymore....well, maybe sometimes, but not all the time..." She realized that she had sead everything, and she look at Nigel's face. So at peace, well, so it seemed. Elaina didn't even want to think about what his final thoughts might have been and she hoped to God it wasn't her.

Elaina turned back and looked toward the priest. "Hey, someone needs to bury this damn casket. It's blockingthe altar. How the hell am I supposed to atone for my sins if this stiff is sitting here in this stinkin' box." Her tone was sure to strike some terror in someone. In her own way Elaina was trying to help Nigel, even if it was just a little too late.

Not even looking for an answer Elaina sat on the front pew and stared. It was the most alone she had ever felt. She hadn't even noticed the man in the back.

"You know it's strange" Dr. Seward said calmly. "how people seem to forget so quickly" Dr. Seward walked towards the front of the church then looked at Nigel.

"he looks like a brave kid....strange he almost looks alive" Dr. Seward said as he checked Nigels pulse. It wasnt unusual for people to be buried alive. He then shook his head sadly.

"how people seem to forget so quickly"

Elaina wasn't sure what the guy meant by that, but she was far from wanting to take a guess. She looked up curiously just to see who was speaking. An immediate sense of distrust washed over Elaina. She wasn't quite so sure what kind of character that guy was.

"he looks like a brave kid....strange he almost looks alive"

Tension spread throughout Elaina's body. After all she had just said she hoped not, even though that was probably wrong for her to hope. "So.. he's... uh... not, um, you know... alive?"

"I'm a doctor" Dr. Seward said a smile formed on his face. "I know what the usual dead person looks like and he doesnt look like the other ones."

"he has no pulse though" Dr. Seward calmly. Death diddnt phase Seward at all. It used to but that was only along time ago. When Seward was naive.

Great. Just great. If Nigel ACTUALLY hear everything Elaina just said he'd use it against her she just knew it. She watched the doctor carefully, still unsure of trusting him just yet. Elaina wanted to know more. The man had yet to fully answer her question.

"he has no pulse though"

"So what's the verdict, old man? Dead? Alive? Living dead? Zombie? Vampire? Werewolf? Some other crazy mythical thing that I'm not thinking of?" Elaina wanted to cover all the bases. "Give me a straight answer, doc."

"No he's definetly dead...I just thought it was wierd" Seward said the smile disappeared from his face. That's when he realized that he might have given Elaina a reason to be happy again. Her loved one was back alive. Note to self Seward not everyone is a doctor and interested in dead people like you.

"Weird..." Elaina mused to herself, "Yeah, it sure is." She shrugged, "Maybe the mortician is a hell of an artist." Elaina hoped that was it. If Nigel were alive she'd have to kill herself. Not really have to, but she might feel that way. She shook her head solomnly.

"Oh well... it doesn't really matter anyway. Dead or alive doesn't matter here." Elaina said as she finally stared at the casket. That was all she could think to do. "In Clauden there is no dead but at the same time... alive doesn't exist. Surely you must have noticed that."

"I havent done any work as a doctor in this town yet" Dr. Seward said his face turned red. He was a bit embarassed to say that.

"I havent even opened my office and I've been here for a while just been busy...." Dr. Seward said laughing alittle. He stopped smiling and then looked directly at Elaina's face.

"so how did you know him?"

"I'm a detective... he was my partner." Elaina said, momentarily choosing to pick up her previous profession. Maybe it wouldn't be bad to do detective work again. "We split up though... we both had different things we were after." She chose, of course, to leave out most of the horrifying things she did.

"It's sad sometimes that you never get a chance to say good bye" Dr. Seward said sadly. Dr. Seward sighed and became silient for a bit. Just to reflect on everything. His life and how he wanted to atone for bad things. How he had lost faith.

"He's better off without a goodbye." Elaina noted softly. She looked around, "God, I hate this place." The church really did creep her out. She didn't feel like she belonged in the church at all. Yet she had made a habit out of coming. More than likely she was trying to figure out if there was a God there to hate.

"I'm sure he misses you as much as you do" Dr. Seward attempting to make Elaina feel better.

Elaina smiled, "It's not his fault I lost my faith... it's mine... and science's fault." She shook her head, "You know... I'm not really supposed to be alive. I died months ago, but I was brought back by some sort of weir trick this scientist doctor thing did... now I'm here." That was the most Elaina intended to let on. "I should be the one in a casket."
