Somewhere during this ordeal, Sydney had gone into the fetal position on the floor of the cavern. When the ‘ghost’ landed near her and Jean, Sydney let out a yelp and scrambled several feet backwards, kicking up a little sand as she did so. She watched the ‘ghost’ start scaling the wall, and seemed to calm down a tiny bit. If it was a ghost, couldn’t it have just floated up, instead of climbing? She bit her lip, and looked up at Jean. “M… Mrs. Hallow, I don’t think that’s a ghost…”

JEan saw thst Sydney was in a state of shock, but recovering, and went to her aid.

"Oh I do so hope you are right," Jean said but then started to cry again.

"But if that wasn't a ghost then it had to be a man, a man that could have helped us out," Jean said now sobbing.

"I can never scale that wall like that with my baby. And there is still that other ghost down the tunnel we must help."

Jean grabbed Sydney and mustered all her courage and walked down the tunnel Larghetto was in until sher heard rustling above her head. (Jean and Sydney were now right beneath Larghetto)

"What is that above our heads? BATS!"

"No, it's me," said Larghetto in annoyance. "I'm not a bat, and I'm not dead either. See?" He put his hands down so that they fell onto the shoulders of Sydney and Jean.
"I'm stuck on a root or something. Now get me down. Please."

"AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!," Jean screamed as Larghetto's hand hit her shoulders.

She grabbed one hand and bit it as hard as she could. Jean was competely blind in the inky blackness.

She flung the hand away and ran........,Straight into Sydney.

"Sydney!," Jean shouted now wrestling with Sydney thinking it to be the assailent.

"Light one of your wood stove matches To find me and Help me!"

Sydney felt a hand on her shoulder, and that alone was enough to make her jerk her shoulder back. She heard Jean scream, and her heart leapt into her throat… However, at about the time she felt something slam her to the ground, her spectacles flew away a few feet, and her breath slammed out of her chest. She went limp, having absolutely no idea that Jean was the one above her, and took slow, terrified, shaking breaths. “Jean… It’s on top of me…” she whispered, blinking a few times. Even though her eyes were starting to adjust to the dark, everything was far, far too fuzzy for her to see anything.

Larghetto let out a string of swear words alternating between french and english.
"Just goes to show you can just never count on a human being," he muttered darkly.
He sighed and crossed his arms.
"You know what, madames? Just get out of here. I'll get down myself. If I die here now because of you guys, I'll blame you, whoever you are, and I will really turn into a ghost who will haunt you both forever."

Jean yanked herself free from Sydney and got to her feet. Bruised and scare but otherwise ok. She remembered that she was going to buy pickles and had her purse with her that had a book of sulphur matches in it.

Jean took out a match and lit one illuminating the ghosts.

JEan surprised, gasped at what she saw.

Sydney was on the ground crawling groping fro her glasses and Larghetto was on the ceiling of the tunnel hanging from a root.

Jean shot Larghetto an angry look, "What kind of trick is that to play on two women?"

"It wasn't a trick," Larghetto said hoarsely, his face red from hanging upside-down. "I've been trying to tell you. Please just get me down. I'm tired."

Jean could hear a rumbling somewhere else far off in the tunnel.

She hesitated a bit, thinking she should just leave Larghetto there becuase of the nasty joke he played on them, but then she helped him down untangling him from the roots.

"Well I don't know why your are in this tunnel other than for pranks, but I hope you help me and Syndey out of it."

"Merci beaucoup! Thank you!" Larghetto immediately regained his happy nature as soon as his feet touched the ground. He kissed both Jean and Sydney on the cheeks, a french custom, then smoothed down his hair excessively.
"Okay, judging by the rumbling in the tunnel, we should definitely go the opposite way, and quickly. The worms definitely wouldn't appreciate humans inside their tunnels."
He took the match from Jean and held it between his teeth, then grabbed her wrist and Sydney's wrist with either hand and started to run to the exit, pulling the two women with him.

Jean was put off by the kiss knowing nothing of foreign customs. She looked at Sydney who was being yanked down the tunnel with her by Larghetto.

"Do you even know how to get out of here?" Jean asked Larghetto.

"I hope we don't have to climb anything steep."

Volupchewus had recently laid a litter of larvae. There were literaly nearly a hundred worms about the size of a little finger to the size of a forearm in the tunnel the direction Larghetto was heading.

A finger sized one fell from the ceiling onto Sydney's hair and began to burrow into her ear.

Another, about the 8 inches long snared onto Larghetto as he ran opening a wound in his leg.

Larghetto sweared and almost dropped the match. He quickly handed it to Jean and then kneeled down and peeled the worm off his leg.
"Go now, hurry! It might be a bit of a climb, but you can certainly get out that way. Get out of here now!"

Jean continued to run now holding onto Sydney as she ran. She had no idea that a tiny worm was making her nurse maid a host.

The worm on Larghetto's leg blinked its pale eyes after being pried off. Its bloated body was still very soft and pink with baby fat. It began to wiggle towards Larghetto again.

Larghetto stopping gave the other baby worms a chance to surround the French lass. A few came out of the ceiling above and behind him while others came out of the walls right next to him. Is our French hero going to become worm food? Will someone come to his aid? Stay tuned to find out.

Meanwhile, the tiny worm near Sydney's ear had now burrowed into her ear canal.

Will our nervous and bookish writer become a drooling zombie until the baby worm destroys her brain. Will she manage to yank the creepy critter from her hearing canal? Stay tuned to find out.
