« Thread started on: Feb 17th, 2006, 6:59pm »

Clay's home is a large brick house in a well to do neighborhood. A solid brick wall surrounds the front yard. Inside the yard a massive British Bulldog named "Goop," snores.

Clay opens the door and Travis greets him.
"Pa I don't want no whoopen but I be chasin a squirrel and it darned ran itself like the wind. I be followin it as fast as I could and I done stop runnin and look up and if aint in the cemetary. I know ya don't want me goin round there but I didn't mean no harm and I had my gun pa. But you won't believe this, I saw this perty, dang was she perty pa, woman standin round the graves with some yung lil gal. I tell her she is real perty and she pats me pa on this shoulder, he says and points.

Clay looks uncomfortable,"Son I tol ya not to go in there. They were probably mourning over there loved ones and they don't need you a hollerin and a botherin them."

"No they weren't Pa, they were not blubberin or nothin, just like meetin or somethin."

Clay looks disturbed, "Ok, well don't go there again or I'm gonna whoop your a@% so hard your rump will fall off."

Clay goes to his gun cabinet opens its lock and retrieves "Clancy" his double barrel shotgun. He puts two shells in its chambers and a handfull of others in his pocket.

"Hun," he says to Jean, "I'm goin, If there is an emergency I will be at the stacked rock marker on the road that leads to the cemetary. I think there might be some town folk practicing witchcraft. If I can head them off when there comin or a-goin to the cemetary then I've got a clear advantage." He said and then walked out.

"Shérif!" Larghetto shouted loudy as he banged on the door of the home, obviously very distressed.
"Shérif! I need to speak with you."
He became flustered when there was no immediate answer and leaned against the wall, his fists clenched and eyes filled with rage.

"Boy," Clay said coming around from the back of the house, "I just heard something strange."
"Before I ask if you found anything in the cemetary I need to tell you that I got a note from Mayor Loomy Knotty. Seems somebody, he don't know who, left him a message, and it said your sister, that woman from Fae ranch who raises horses and Scowley were witnessed practing withcraft together. This message said they were all seen killing another one of Mrs. Ellisson's cows. I think we might have are cow killing witches. You, perty boy, and the woman who found Travis might want to do a seach for evidence in and around thier homes. That's what the mayor suggessted anyhow. Now what did you and Nancy boy find in that cemetary?"

Larghetto snapped. Everything he said seemed to come out in one sentence.
"LEAVE FERMATA OUT OF THIS!" he fumed, "She did not touch that cow and she isn't a witch! Whoever killed these cows is a terrible person and I hate them, but it was not mon chere souer! She was sleeping, shérif! Some idiot slaughtered that poor animal and left the parts around my house, Hellister's house, and Raven's house.
And by the way, I refuse to work with little miss 'He's as stupid as he is pretty.' She suspiciously showed up at the cemetery tonight, you know. I work with Dragon Lock! Atleast he isn't afraid to walk into a mine. Now, if you even so much as allow Fermata be hurt, you will regret it! That cow ought to be avenged! I am going to see my animals now. Good day to you, messieur!"
He stormed off to Liliy Hill.

Raven galloped up to the house on her horse, watching as a steaming Larghetto stormed off. She slowed Ail down and gazed at the sherrif.

"Why, are you not at the jail!? I've been waiting for hours. Someone left a rather nasty present in the bushes near one of the corrals."

"Sigh," Clay said shaking his head. "I'm quite overwhelmed here. Your the woman from Fae ranch. Seems your a suspect for witchery and cattle mutilation. What do you have to say about that? You were witnessed murdering and using Mrs. Ellison's cow for rituals."

"I was -what-!?" Raven stared at him for a few seconds and shook her head.

"I knew it was a horrid idea to leave the safety of the ranch..." She sighed.

"I, was at my ranch once I left the tavern sir. I had an appointment to meet with Mr Hellister Scowley in order to sell him a horse. After that, I fed my horses, and went to bed. As God is my witness Sherriff."

The horse under her moved, wanting to leave, and she reined him back into a halt.

"Are there any others suspected?"

"Any other suspects? You just named one. You were seen with Scowley and Fermata the tavern's pianist, although I'm sure you are well aqainted with her. At this moment an investigation is being carried out on all three of you. I'm not going to apprehend you until all the facts come in," he said.

"I dont even know this girl! I only just met Mr Scowley and Larghetto!" She reined her horse.

She frowned deeply with worry.

"Who is it that accuses me so!?" She shook her head.

"I need to return home. I wont leave town, find me later, at my ranch." She turned her horse and the two bolted back to the ranch.

"Ma I got the runs real bad still, I wush I wouldnt'a ate them jellies," Travis moaned.

Jean, his mom, responded, "I'm a gonna get dressed properly and take ya to a doctor hun."

Jean dressed quickly and her and Travis left the house.

Travis brought Miakoda to his Mom and Dad's home, Jean the sheriff's wife, walked outside when she saw her son was leading a woman by the hand up to the front door.

"Hello," Jean said to the woman, "Who might you be?"

Travis answered, "Ma this is Miakoda, she is a magician from out of town and needs a place to stay."

"Hi hun, have you traveled far," Jean asked Miakoda.

"Yeah...well, sort of." Miakoda replied with a smile,
"I'm actually from Laughlin, but I travel around doing shows for most of the year, and Clauden was on the way to one of my usual stops. But this town is pretty much in the middle of nowhere compared to other cities."

"Uh huh," Jean said. "Well come on in," she said helping Miakoda into the home. "We have a guest room which I will show you to in a moment. I am just putting on dinner. My husband Clay isn't home right yet. He is the sheriff here and works long hours."

Jean showed Miakoda to the table,
"Well I hope you just do play magic or you won't be very popular around here or with my husband,"Jean said examining the young girl.

"Of course. But I can't really do much stage magic until the tavern is fixed and I've got somewhere to go with an audience. I overheard on the way over here that the church had fallen to rubble as well. Two buildings? How does that even happen?"
Miakoda asked, changing the subject. So this was a witch-hating town. She made a mental note not to slip up and say something in latin.

"Those buildings," Jean said while preparing venison, "Are being rebuilt. Unfortunatley there are not too many stand up citizens in this town that will help so it is taking a long time. It happened becuase we have a problem with ruffians in this town."
