"Thank you for the money sir...now what have you seen that amkes this town so great." Phelim said yawning as he stretched his arms into the air. Phelim now respected Charles more. In fact he almost reminded him of himself. Phelim looked at the bartenders tip jar it was empty. Something that showed Phelim the generosity of some of the people in the town. So quickly Phelim pulled out a wad of 20 dallor bills from his pocket and stuffed them in the jar. Phelim diddnt care if Charles had found out he had lied to him. Phelim knew what it was like to barely make it with any money. Along with that this wad of money proved to be the last of the dirty money he had obtained in New York. The past was surely something Phelim somehow hoped to leave behind.

Elliot lost interest in Charles, who now seemed completely occupied with the other stranger.
"Yes, yes, that charming French pretty boy who everyone is so taken with. I thought I saw him recently," he mused. Elliot rubbed his chin in contemplation. After a few brief moments, he tapped his cane against the groun.
"I remember now. I believe I passed him on my way here. I am quite certain I saw him lurking outside the jail with that friend of his he seems so inseperable from. Yes. Something seemed to be amiss, Miss Perrine."

"Yes, yes, that charming French pretty boy who everyone is so taken with. I thought I saw him recently,"

"Everyone is so taken with him? Of course why not he's one of the greatest people anyone could wish to meet," she muttered more to herself than to Eliot. Her brown eyes shot up when she heard him say he had seen him recently.

"I remember now. I believe I passed him on my way here. I am quite certain I saw him lurking outside the jail with that friend of his he seems so inseperable from. Yes. Something seemed to be amiss, Miss Perrine."

"Jamie? Him and Jamie were lurking around the jail?" Sicilia asked bewildered. Something did seem a miss. What was going on in the jail?

"Yes, Jamie, that was his name. Not to alarm you, my dear, but they had their guns at the ready. I would suggest staying clear of that area at all costs until further notice," Elliot said. His gaze shifted to the counter, and he took a handkerchief from his pocket and began to absentmindedly rub off some spilled alcohol that had dried there.
"Of course, it could be absolutely nothing. I am not a man to spread rumors."

Sicilia furrowed her brow. The worry began to swell in her chest. They only take their guns out if there might be trouble.

"Of course, it could be absolutely nothing. I am not a man to spread rumors."

She beamed up at him. "You're right," she said optimistically hoping to reassure herself, "It's probably nothing at all."

Hellister walked into the tavern and noticed Sicilia sitting with a group of men of whome he didn't recognize. He laughed at the irony of life and sat down near Sicilia.

"Fancy meeting you here," Hellister said. "Seems like I once fell for you."

Hellister rolled a cigarette of some unknown herb and began to smoke.

Hellister looked at the other man who was sitting with Scilia. "I see you have another boyfriend. Quite nice."

"Fancy meeting you here," Hellister said. "Seems like I once fell for you."

"Ah, Hellister. What an unexpected surprise. It's a plessure to see you again, after a long visit out of town," Sicilia greeted. She chose politely to ignore the second half of his statement. There was no need to bring up past events that seemed to have smoothed over.

"I see you have another boyfriend. Quite nice."

Sicilia felt her face flush once more. Last she checked she didn't even technically have a boyfriend. "Dr. Byer this is Hellister Scowley, my ex-fiance. Hellister this is an acquaintence of mine, not a b-boyfriend," she stuttered embarrassedly.

She didn't understand why Hellister had greeted her in such away. He of all people should know where her heart lies.

"Boyfriend?!" Elliot exclaimed, alarmed, making as if he had spit out his drink, only he hadn't been drinking one. It took a few moments for the initial shock to subside, during which he looked utterly horrified.
Then, he cleared his throat and smiled.
"Yes, the young lady is correct, Mr. Scowley, we are merely acquainted. I have heard a little about you from Miss Perrine. I am sure you are quite the charming man."

Hellister puffed away at his cigarette until the coal reached his finger. When it burned him he threw it away with a look of disgust on his face.

"An acquaintance, I see, I see. Well Dr. Beyer," Hellister said looking at Sicilia, "Before you get too involved let me inform you that the woman may be nice to look at and smell fragrant but she will cause you much distress."

Hellister took out another rolling paper and some tobacco and began to smoke again.

"For years she used to make the "eyes" at me when I walked by a flower shop she was staying in. It was abvious from her looks that she was head over heels for me. Naturally, I offered to make her my wife."

Hellister blew a smoke ring and put his finger through it. "When she recieved my engagement ring however, she got cold feet. It seems this woman likes the idea of things more than she likes the reality of them. When she realized I wasn't an impossible catch she left me for some other guy. When this man becomes available to her she will leave him for you I am sure"

Hellister smiled at Sicilia and then turned back to Mr. Beyer.

"Now if I were you I know a girl you might be interested in. She only has one hand, because my sister ate her other hand off, and she no longer speaks. Her name is Delia. Where is Delia anyway, did I leave her in that cave? Anyways, if you want I can take you to the caverns and intoduce you if she has not starved to death yet."

Hellister waited for an answer and then another thought came to him, "I could have fixed you up with my sister but she is quite dead because I created a cherub with Delia and it burned her head off so I guess she is not available anymore."

Elliot shifted in his seat, quickly becoming uncomfortable again. He forced a smile.
"I assure you, Mr. Scowley, I am doing perfectly all right as a, er, bachelor. P-please accept my condolences about your, um, poor sister, and Miss Delia." Elliot shook his head and helped himself up with his cane.
"N-now if you have nothing further to say, I believe I have an, um, um, appointment, yes, an appointment that I am late for. I just remembered." He took out his pocket watch and glanced at it.

"Well I do have a few more things to say Mr. Beyer."

Helliste noticed Dr. Beyer glance at his watch.

"I am available. Do you have any women friends? I am back in the dating game now that my life has slowed again."

Elliot almost tripped. Not only was he uncomfortable with talking about women, but he was scared of Hellister. Scared of his strange topics, scared of his "vampirism", which he recalled hearing about, and just scared of his appearance in general.
"Um, um, yes, of course I have women friends. Why wouldn't I? What m-man doesn't?" he straightened and tried to remember the ladies he had met in Clauden, worried about what Hellister might do to him if he didn't sacrifice a name.
"I don't suppose you know Miss Eva? My memory fails to recall her last name, but she's, um, uh, pretty, I suppose..."

Sicilia rested her elbows on the bar and burried her face in her hands. Hellister was telling nothing but lies about what happened. Yes, she cared about Hellister, but she cared about alot of people in different ways. Sicilia didn't recall ever "making eyes" at him from inside the flowershop. She had only met him once before the ball.

A soft groan emitted from within her chest. She had truly thought Hellister had gotten past everything. Maybe it was the mysterious herbs he was smoking that was screwing up his memory.

Oh, dear lord. Please send someone to save me from this embarrassment. Anyone, just to destract Hellister long enough to let Elliot escape this insanity. Pleae! she prayed pleadingly in her head.

Genesis' eyes grew wide since she couldn't help but over hear the commotion from behind her. It was getting a bit interesting but due to the description of the dead woman in the cave, she paled and fanned herself with her hand feeling as if she would faint. It didn't seem to work too well since her vision was already starting to blur at the mere thought of blood. Her eyes rolled back and body became motionless as it slid sideways from the booth leaving her half in and half going for the floor.

Out of the corner of his eye, Elliot noticed Genesis' sudden slouch, and he took the oppurtunity to dismiss himself from the conversation.
"Excuse me, sir, and Miss Perrine," he said before hurrying over to the woman, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"My dear lady, are you quite all right? It is okay. I am a doctor."
