((OOC: Sorry just going to squeeze in here!))

Belle looked to Goop and noticed that were different kinds of humans plus others. " Hmmm smells like vampires of some sort!" She shuffled herself a giggle... " How interesting!" Her lips curled into a smile over her wolf fangs, she had forgotten that Goop was with her! " Ah crap! She thought, she looked to the dog who seemed to be whinning, she walked him outside and tyied him to the drainpipe outside the pub. " Ill be back in two seconds boy!"

The girl walked in and shuffled alittle, she could feel the hairs on her back stand up. She shuffled a growl, Belle was a unique wolf, she was a human but in a blink of an eye she was a wolf. Oh how she loved attention when she was one, the smell from the creatures was disturbing, Belle screwed up her nose and saw Travis and the others talking, she looked through someone's legs to see where they were, her hearing was so good but whilst there was load of talking and buzzing she couldnt hear nada!

((OOC: That's cool. I think Travis and D wandered out of the thread. Silas and Senka left the bar and wandered outside. You're welcome to come find us.))

A half-moon had begun to pick itself wearily over the horizon, putting it's own silvered pall on the scene. Silas, his crushed cap missing, snorted a response, unintelligible, and qualified it with an affirmative sort of
"Er, 'a"

As the light infiltrated sidelong, it light Silas the sprinter in profile, making honest his knobbly frame and crescent nose, his tameless mane and something strange about the aerodynamics of those copper locks.

A few minutes later, huffing, he skidded to a halt by a mailpost some yards from the house's porch, fishing a snub-nosed revolver from the shapeless depths of his drape, smacked the chamber out, dropped a shell and slotted one in from the inside of his coat. Clicking it shut against his hip, he spun to Senka and pointed with the other hand.

"Storm door around the back. And it's just a matter of speech"

Senka raised a dark eyebrow, but let it pass. She reminded her very very curious self that it was not her job. Her job was to be back up, or cover, or whatever it is that he could need. She flicked her left wrist and felt the bowie knife slide down her arm and into her hand. She flicked it once and felt the wire tug on the hilt. She attached wires to a small ring on the ends of all her weapons. It made them stick sometimes, and she’d been pulled in some unpleasant directions, but it also meant she could do some very impressive things with items she tried not to call Yo-yo-knives. But they were, you know. Yo-yo knives.

Senka slipped in front of him and shouldered the screen door open. It gave a little easier than she thought. One of the hinges was completely torn away. She’d stumbled into the kitchen. She knew it, vaguely. She’d been given lemonade at the counter once. The lady of the house had, unwittingly, gotten her sacred word to make her son do his homework. He’d gotten an A she remembered.

The counter was wrenched out of the wall. The wood was cracked down the center. The wooden floor was torn as if someone had run knives across it. And a train. In the hall, she could see, the trap door to the cellar was pulled up. No, not up. Off. It had been thrown almost through the yellow, flowerprint wall. The damage ended there, as if the cyclone had swirled down it like a drain.

“Now, I’m not a tracker,” Senka whispered. She didn’t know if whispering helped, but it seemed wise, “but I’m willing to guess it came this way.” She looked at the mess of a home. “What would it want in here?”

"Well... 's warm, and wetter'n tha' what surrounds it, which this critter likes. 's got one entrance or exit, like you or me, that might make it feel safe an' when you consider the ambient temp'ture..."

Silas paused, his sibilant hiss ending curtly as he cleared his throat. The dour lighting hid his eyes and any trace of sheepishness.

"...so in summation... I've no idea 'tall. Never seen i' go inside anything."

Another sibilant, breathing pause.

"Wi'out then coming out the other side. Or settin' it on fire."

Silas sucked his breath in, picking up the heavy, musty reek steaming up from the blackness blanketed floor. Choking down a cough, he took a few steps into the wide basement, sloshing some nameless, stagnant liquid- coat creating a soft, sloshing wake.

Pointing with his pistol, Silas went for the right wall, keeping a calloused hand on the brickwork and taking a trio of steps before shrieking and falling back, the sound of a single gunshot drowning out all night sounds for a moment; the strobe revealing a dozen hunched shapes and flashing eyes around the perimeter of the basement, and one long, golden-tressed shape on the floor, floating in the same soup sucking and Silas' shoes.

"It's here! I felt it! Light something goddamn something!"

Senka’s head shot up from where she’d been inspecting the damage to the wall, smashing her head against the shelf above it. The lovely candelabra, (a gift from the bride’s mother. Pure silver, you know), clattered to the floor and rolled toward the cellar.

“Agh!” She snarled at the shelf. “Silas?” In her experience, yelling someone’s name rarely had a positive effect on a problem, but it did give you something to do besides panicking and it tended to make the person in trouble feel slightly better. Someone heard you. Someone else is worried about you. She took a massive stride toward the cellar; almost a leap. Then she heard the gunshot.

It’s a proven fact that most people, upon hearing a gunshot, will stop. The brave ones will consider their next actions and then run towards the sound. The braver ones will skip the consideration. The cowardly (or smart) ones will turn tail. This is a perfect moment to illustrate what made the Volgeni particularly useful. At the sound of the shot, Senka took another enormous step. She grabbed the candle in one hand and knelt at the opening just long enough to light two of the three candles. Then she dropped through the hole.

The splash surprised her, but perhaps not so much as what the candles illuminated. On the other side of the cellar, under shelves which still dutifully held lines of canned apples and pears. They were untouched despite the chaos below. They glowed warmly in the candlelight. Below them, a handful of luminescent eyes blinked at the candles. Something along the walls, on the floor; everywhere glistened.

She angled a shoulder between the blinking jelly covered things and Silas. “What….” She stuttered. “What is it?”

"A hatchin'! Younglin'!"
Silas shouted again as something coiled past his leg, dredging a silty wake and a sense of absolute dread. Silas compacted himself against a a wall, bracing against a support member and punching another loud-mouth round into the soup.

The first specialty round, fired in haste, had begun to leak a noxious yellow pigment into the gray-brown water. A geyser of yellow-brown water met the second one, along with a fountain of crimson, and something hissed once and died.

In the low candlelight after the flash, the room could be seen clearly. Support members collapsed, shelves destroyed: A low wooden nest of ruined furniture, and a collection of eyes and limbs, slowly oozing out. The only sound was the dying rattle and a sudden sloshing as the brood began to push off the wall. Silas, gasping, pointed the snub nose at the far wall and went to fire again.

He never got the chance. Something with tawny fur and long, wild-cat paws defined a perfect parabolic arc into his midsection, bringing how down with a fountain of brackish water and pinning him in the darkness cast by an upturned stockpallet.

Senka’s eyes grew to the size of silver dollars. The thing, whatever it was, struck her across the shoulder. She tripped back into a set of shelves that crashed against the cement wall filling the small space with tremendous noise. She tossed the candle on the only remaining upright surface and flicked her right wrist. There was a small friction-induced noise as another knife dropped into her palm. Still, something stopped her. They were just hatchlings. Vicious, man eating hatchlings, but still. She took two strides toward Silas and planted her thick boots into what she assumed were the thing’s ribs.

Whatever it is that she did hit made a satisfying sound on impact and disappeared through the pallet. “You didn’t tell me this was a possibility, Mr Peller!” She shouted. Suddenly something with the force of a linebacker slammed into her shoulder. She buckled into the wall and whatever it was splashed into the corner. She rolled against the wall and flicked her wrist toward the corner. The knife flashed across the distance, leaving a thin line of light like a firefly trail. It sparked against the wall. The thin, whatever it was, was far faster. It lashed a tentacle around her ankle and latched on with its teeth. Senka could see two silvery eyes as she toppled over into the mush with a quiet noise of pain and disbelief. She could hear other things move closer through the water.

Belle noticed that a problem was being to brew up! Belle lowered herself and started to stalk outside. In a blink of an eye she was human again, Goop started to jump and down and pounced on her. " You big lumicas! We better go and find Travis!" She wondered if she could smell them, but there was no scent.

" Damn! Must be so far by now" She looked to Goop and then to the floor, " Well four legs are better then two!" Belle giggled and kneeled down to Goop, " Now boy, need you to trust me i want you to follow me when i run!" The big dog placed a paw on her arm and smiled, Belle knew that Goop knew what she was talking about. The girl rubbed the dog's head and let go of the leash, she then changed into a wolf and smelt the air.

They went towards your home or near the sheriff's cells!
She started to run and Goop followed.

"Never occured to me it was!" Silas spluttered, clearing his mouth long enough to opine in a display of astonishing fortitude.

Senka's square kick hit something which set up a howl not quite fit to mask the heavy splintering of bone. Silas levered himself almost electrically out of the brackish water in a fountain of tracer paint, spoiled cider and orange ichor.

Spitting and thundering as he rose, Silas had a critter which was in all apparent honesty a bobcat from the claws to somewhere in the midsection and a rattlesnake from there to the rattler. Clutching it feverishly by the tail, it's sadly broken midsection flapping idle, Silas swung it full-on around his head once, casting it into a nest of it's hungry kin.

A moment endured, as Silas worked around the room with his eyes. Senka entering the lake, two unique wakes cycling towards him, something not entirely revealed by the falling candles in mid bound. Silas slowly rising. The aforementioned candles describing a dozen arcs of light as they reached for the water.

The bounding creature kept bounding, landing once amid a triumphant backsplash and rising up towards Silas' head.

The bounding chimera made it's final approach on Silas' neck, only to find his head speeding forward. , A sound like a home-run picked up over the waters as Silas slammed heads with the creature, sparks flying from his long, ribbed horns. The animal, dead and unnatural, flopped back into the debris.

Silas spun, trudging through water as the pack cringed backwards.

"Hey!"

Somewhere in the process of trading blows with the monster, Silas had fished out eight inches of knife wound with twine to a bison horn handle. Rather than the saw-like grip of a trapper or the workman like cast of a rancher's knife, Silas had it poised, tip down, between thumb and forefinger. As Senka and tentacles thrashed around, Silas came on, ignoring the two wakes behind him, walking in fact like a carnival showman.

His wrist flicked out, silver flashing in the light from the stormdoor.

The bison-horn handle protruded from one of Senka's foe being's several eyes. Silas opened his mouth to offer some advice probably more complicated than what he got to say, which was "Urp", as a thing coiled around each ankle and pulled. Thrashing to get his copper locks and considerable horns above the surface Silas managed a bellow, three words, clear as a rung bell.

"Fire! Hates fire!"

From the ground Senka could still hear the wire bringing in her knife. She pulled her arm to the ground. She felt the stress on the line as it caught around the edge of the creatures spine. The knife came with it, sliding along the line of the chain. The thing abruptly let go and Senka wriggled away from it. She fiddled in her pockets for her lighter. Where had she stuck in her haste to get down to Silas. Ha! She pulled it out with her left hand and gave the knife in her right a spin. Where it didn’t cut through the fabric of her coat it stuck. With a pull she dislodged it.

The creatures she’d partially dissected was leaking into the shallow lake covering the basement floor. It rose and fell back into the soup. It seemed to be growing in the dark light. No! The rest of the nest had overtaken it. They were literally crawling over their fallen brother, who sunk deeper into the murk. Senka flicked the lighter open. The things paused. One of them, she noticed, had the fluffy beginnings of wings. How, exactly, did these things work?

She looked at the lighter. It was a nice one. She’d gotten it as a gift at the end of one of her missions. It was inlaid in a rose pattern. She’d always thought it was lovely. She carefully lit the end of the fabric around the knife. The she hooked the corner on the edge of the blade and broke it. The fabric around the knife ignited. The pile of creatures gave a united hiss and took a step, slither, wobble backwards. She let out a length of chain and spun the whole mess to a glowing hoop. She edged toward Silas and started humming, without even thinking. I fell in to a burning ring of fire….

Trashing, spluttering, Silas spent a dozen years beneath the surface of the water, scum infiltrating his eyes and ears, soaking his coat, admixing with the 'powder in the matte leather case on his hip. Seeping into his hip-flask.
Booze. 'Hol.
Something shook itself into Silas' waterlogged brain as he watched a star flare into being above Senka's hand, a thousand miles away through a fish-eye lens.
Booze. 'Shine.
Oh.
Silas renewed his thrashing, his active mind cut out of the loop in favor of a much more primal cortex. With a dancer's grace and a wild strength Silas lashed out with a second knife, skewering one of the snake-creatures around his ankle, only to find the other releasing in tandem with the first hit- the conjoined creature made a foul sound and worse stink as it billowed black blood into the mixture.
Which was full of at least a dozen kegs of spilt moonshine and probably some spare lamp-oil and...
Some part of that caught with a tremendous whomp, the pressure change tossing chimeras and bits of basement about.

Silas picked up speed across the flooded basement, making an awful sucking sound as he ran through the flamelit lake, sprinting past Senka for the staircase.

Senka watched Silas rush past her, spraying the back of her coat with the murk from her shoes. The basement was quickly igniting, filling it with a wicked warmth and light. She wished that hadn’t happened. She could now see exactly the kind of monsters she’d been fighting. She spun and followed Silas, fighting the urge to clasp her eyes shut as she went. At the edge of the stairs she stopped. Under the lip of the first step, a single egg had washed up. It was wiggling, emphatically, fighting for life even as it sank. A crack was opening in the top and Senka could see a thin curve of a beak.

She blinked at it. Behind her there were hisses and something very like screams. The side of the egg fell away and the creature blinked into the heat and violent light at Senka’s face hanging like a moon above it. The body was more or less feline, ending in an insecticide tail. The back legs were, instead, talons. The head too, was avian, with large black eyes, which blinked, confused, at its new world. On its back, small, fuzzy future wings. It opened its mouth and made what was, (Senka could think of nothing else), the saddest sound she had ever heard, and took a tumble toward the deep water.

She stuck out a hand, caught it, and stuck it in her jacket pocket. The thing made a surprised squeak and sat still in the deep, thick fabric. That, she thought to herself, was the stupidest thing I have ever done. Worse, perhaps, than burning a friend’s house down. Perhaps I can combine the two, and put the whole mess down as less than my best moment. She stumbled up the stairs as the hissing behind her reached a crescendo.

She didn’t see Silas in the hall or the kitchen. For good measure she kicked some of the mess from her shoes across the walls and ran her knife across it. It lit helpfully. She tripped out the front door and slid to a stop ten yards away, breathing so hard her shoulders shook and her brain pounded against her skull. She watched as one window filled with orange and red curtains.

“Yes.” She said quietly. “Not my finest moment at all.” At that moment she noticed that her sleeve was on fire and set to beating it out against the sand.

Silas was sitting on the walk, leaning forward against his knees and panting heavily, cloaked in flickering shadows. A cloud of smoke spiraled recklessly from the storm-door and the first floor of the home where the fire had begun to climb.

Hoarse and sarcastic, Silas offered a fit of phlegmatic coughing by way of the reply, bundled with the words
"No' mine."

After another bout of wet, shaking coughs, he staggered over to Senka and pointed with a knuckle at the creature on Senka. "Whasshe?"

Senaka was doubled over, inspecting the first degree burn along the line of her wrist almost to her elbow. That was going to take a while to heal. The jacket was pretty much ruined along the side. It would take forever to sew all the pockets she needed into a new one, plus all the things which needed to be hidden in seams. She would need a new lighter. Her eyes snapped to Silas.

“What?” She asked stupidly.

She followed his point to her left pocket. The little…creature had wiggled his two front paws, head, and shoulders out of her pocket. He rocked back and forth on the seam, intent on removing himself from the pocket, but unsure about the fall that would follow. Senka frowned and grabbed the fluffy abomination by the scruff. It turned with a miniature snarl and attempted to remove her fingers with its beak. She also noticed, rather dubiously, that the long black insecticide tail was tipped with a stinger. It flicked back and forth like a kitten’s.

“I’m not entirely sure what it is.” She said, bringing it eye level and inspecting it. “But I am fairly sure it is a she.”
