Cain’s violet eye shone towards the sinking sun, and he let out a refreshing sigh. Hues of orange from the skyline made the sand under his bare feet sparkle, the last signs of daylight in its death throes. “Mmmh, I’d forgotten how good it feels to have ground beneath me...” he said, seemingly to thin air. Suddenly, his jaw jerked down to his chest, and his violet eyes rolled back into his head. After a good couple seconds, two blue eyes rolled back out in their place, and Abel looked up in Cain’s stead. He felt somewhat rejuvenated, the deal had apparently worked wonderfully. But he knew that he would need proper food and drink in town to keep going. “Cain, please, I need to eat.” He said aloud as he began walking towards Clauden, his breath hitched and uneven, clutching his side hungrily.

Kappa had been playing a disappearing act for quite some time and now she was starting to wonder whether or not she was lost.

"But of course not." she shouted to herself, "And imp such as Kappa doesn't lose their self. Rrrriiiidiculooooous."

Out in the distance she saw a hazy shadow, she quickly began to catch up with him. When she had she yanked on his pants leg and asked with a grin, "Does boy know the way back?"

Abel looked down at what he assumed was a child, and stood at a halt. He returned her grin with a smile, and nodded slowly. “Yeah. At least, I do if the directions I got were correct,” he replied. Abel, we’re wasting time with this child. Forget her… him… it? Bah, nevermind, all human children look alike. Leave the thing and go, alright? Cain said inside of their collective thoughts. Abel sighed, wondering if he would have to put up with this for his whole life. “You should come along. This place could go in any direction for miles, and it’ll be dark soon.”

"Directions?" she mumbled "East of the setting sun and such?" Kappa began walking forward in pace with the human, "Kappa thinks you smell funny." she pointed out bluntly more to herself than him. She had been refering to a slightly off scent that wasn't entirely mortal.

Abel cast a sidelong glance at the child, and gently furrowed his eyebrows. Funny? He hadn’t bathed in a long time, sure, but the tone she said it with seemed to suggest something else. Did she smell Cain? No… no, she was just a kid, he assured himself. There’s no way she could detect that. “Yes, I know. It’s been a while since I’ve had a shower,” he explained briefly. “Why are you out here, anyways? Where are your parents?” he asked, in a hurried attempt at changing the subject.

Kappa incoherently mumbled something about dim witted humans interrupting conversations with ones self and cast Abel a sidelong glance when he spoke of parents.

"Kappa is no human child, what a disgusting thought." she grimanced before contining, "She isn't ruled by others only Nature and Helfore, ruler of all."

Not a human? And it said its name is Kappa… Hrh, from what I gather, this thing might be an imp. Watch yourself, they can be horrible tricksters. Cain grumbled. Abel looked at Kappa again, this time a little bit more carefully. A Daemon would be knowledgeable about these things, and the grimace on her face told him that she wasn’t playing about it. He put on an uneasy smile, and nodded. “Okay, I understand that. So if you’re not a human, then what are you? An imp?” he replied, turning his head to give her his full attention.

Kappa giggled madly covering her mouth with her hands and shaking her head lightly. "Why of course Kappa is an imp." She giggled out through her teehees. "Whatever else would you speculate her to be?"

Wow. That was easy. Cain thought. “Well, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then I usually assume that it is a duck, if you will pardon the expression,” Abel replied. “I can’t tell an imp from a human on sight yet.”

"Kappa thinks if you were to always assume one is what they appear to be, or seem to be like than you could put yourself in more than a few foolhardy situations." She nodded at this fact, "And that is never a very bright and sunny place to be. Like this horrid desert with all it's bright shiny sand and clear refective skys." She gesticulated wildly and spoke in a tone of voice that suggested annoyance.

"As of you, Kappa is thinking she should figure out why you seem so..." she searched for the word, "Out of place, but only part of you seems so."

Abel nodded, his gaze sinking slightly to the ground. He had to admit that she had a very good point, but he was still finding most of this supernatural stuff a bit hard to grasp. Not a short while ago he had become host to a Daemon, and had met an imp—both of which he thought only existed in fairy tales and the like. How was he to know what was myth and what was real anymore?

Her second statement caught him by surprise. Cain let out a laugh, which was so loud that Abel thought it might be faintly audible outside his head. Clever little one, he thought after he had finished, Sounds like she’s almost got us pegged. “What are you talking about?” Abel asked, his voice a little stronger and certainly more defensive.

Kappas first thought was to just ignore her curiousity and continue walking as she didn't want to anger him and get left behind. But considering she was an imp, she might as well have been trying to prevent the sun from setting.

"Kappa means exactly what she has said, nothing more, nothing less. She's sure you understand perfectly well."

Abel scratched the back of his neck, and sighed. It was pointless to get agitated, if anything it would give him away. He would need to get used to this sort of suspicion from people (and otherwise).

“Yeah, I understand what you said, but not what you’re implying. I’m one-hundred-percent human,” he lied.

''How do you know Kappa was even impling that you weren't, in fact, human? All she said was you seemed out of place, who would not be out of place this forsaken, and completely baren, desert?" She turned and grinned, "Why so defensive about your race?"

“Because you just went on about how obvious things can often be wrong, and saying that I’m out in the middle of the desert would be stating the obvious. That would be a bit of a contradiction, which you look like you’re too clever to make. You might have thought that most humans wouldn’t walk when they could take a train, so I concluded that you were remarking about my race,” he said rather quickly. “And I’m only defensive about my humanity out of pride.” My dear Abel, are we in denial about something? Hee hee…
