« Thread started on: Jul 31st, 2009, 05:58am »

Phelim sat by the river bank and stared at the water flowing down the river. He thought of everything back in Ireland. His father took him by the bank alot. Phelim smiled as he heard children splashing in the water a few feet down. Life is crazy. It just goes by so quickly. At one moment he was an innocent carefree child. The next moment he was looking at the sight of a man with his brains blown out on the floor. It was almost symbolic how he got out of that jail cell. Phelim felt like he had truly died back in New York. Clauden was a fresh start it was life after death.

Sicilia walked slowly down to the river bed. Her book was nestled softly in her woven basket. Today was a wonderful day to go outside and read for a bit.

"Hey there" Phelim said a friendly smile formed on his face. He felt his face turn red for a bit. However Phelim still managed to stand up and move his hand forward to get a handshake from his future boss.

The girl looked up at the sound of the Irish accent. "Ah, Mr. O'Moore was it?" she asked his first name escaping her. She extended her hand to meet his, "Isn't it a lovely day to be down by the riverbed?"

"Yeah it is if there wasnt that sh*t town nearby" Phelim said laughing a bit. He held her hand and shook it gently. It felt so frail and weak. It reminds him of his mom's hand. A few akward seconds past of him looking at her before he pulled his hand away. Phelim kicked himself for acting the way he did. However most of the time alcohal kept him calm. Without his booze his social akwardness would appear to be alittle more apparent.

Sicilia gave a small little chuckle, and gave him a slight smile as she shook his hand. "Yeah, well you'll get used to Clauden. Give it time," she said, "Honestly, even with its reputation, I'd rather not call anywhere else home."

She looked off at the kids playing in the river. "Well, may I join you then?" she asked.

"Hopefully I'll get used to it I bet with enough booze maybe I can even learn to call this place home" Phelim said a smile formed on his face. Phelim slowly sat down and laid on his back staring at the sky for a while.

"Yeah I could use some company where are you from?" Phelim said fixated at the blue sky. He sat up quickly and picked up a nearby rock and threw it into the river.

Sicilia took a spot next to Phelim. He seemed like a nice enough guy to hire. "So, why don't you tell me about yourself, Phelim?" she inquired.

"Well I'm from Ireland and I came to New York around three years ago to try to get a fresh start well that turned out to not be the greatest place in the world so here I am" Phelim said calmly looking at the water. That was all Phelim felt he had to say at the moment. That was the best way for Phelim to put it all together. Well for his purposes at least. He felt as if his past should be a vivid almost dreamlike memory instead of the detailed gritty memories that he remembered.

Sicilia nodded. "And, what was so wrong with New York? May I ask?" She really had never been out of the Midwest, so for her she probably wouldn't enjoy a busy city like New York. However, Phelim came from Ireland. Weren't they violent in Ireland? Or was that only in Northern Ireland where the Catholics and Protestants were fighting?

"I diddnt like New York because it had the same problems as Ireland....no one had money....everyone drinks and everyone waits for someone to just save everyone....so I figured maybe the west was a change" Phelim said a smile formed on his face. He looked at Sicilia and then slowly back at the water. Maybe every place would seem like Ireland to him. Maybe he was just doomed to see his old home where ever he went.

Sicilia thought on it for a moment. "Well, we do have people who drink, and Clauden does have it's fair share of problems. Yet, we find away to fend for ourselves and the one's we love," she smiled, "You have to take care of yourself here. Especially if you have noone else with you."

"Heh taking care of yourself for too long gets kind of stale" Phelim said looking at the water. Phelim's smile disappeared as he thought about his mom while looking at the water. She had raised him and kept him alive for so long. Ever since she died Phelim was actually alone from then on. Phelim sighed for a second and then looked over at Sicilia.

"So whats your story?" Phelim said the smile reappeared on his face.

"It's simple. My mother died when I was born, and my father was sickened by me. My sister, whom is years older than me, had already moved out. A few years ago my father sent me to live with her. Then, just recently, he took ill and died himself. I believe it was heartache," Sicilia shrugged, "Now I'm here and caught up in some drama that's just too much."

"Life is full of coincidences isnt it my father killed when I was younger....and my mother well I guess she just lost it and she blamed everything on me after that" Phelim said staring at the grass. He seemed fixated on a piece of grass that was growing.
