Daddy says that this book thing will help me keep a...rec...rec...will help me keep track of my brain's thoughts so that I can read them later on and figure out what I was thinking so I won't remember. He said too that it will let me write down things that are imp...impor...important! to me. Bye bye for now.

I can't believe I forgot about this! I'm such a lamebag...but anyway, I'm here writing again...my dad's celebrating my birthday - but not with me. He went to the saloon again to "purge" himself of his bad memories, he said. I don't believe him.

Last night my girlfriend Patty broke up with me because I took up sword lessons from my uncle. She kept blathering about how it was "not suited for our day and age" and that "it was a wussie's skill". I dunno what she really meant and all, but it sure got to me. Can't believe...right before my 14th birthday...

But I'm alright now. Roland came over and gave me a brand new pair of boots he crafted himself; can't wait to try 'em on! They look sweet.

Okay, bye now. Time for prayer.

You won't believe what I can do with a sword...er...whoever reads this! My uncle showed me how to throw it up and catch it behind my head! Pretty cool!

I also learned that my family has something called a bloodline that goes wayyyy back into history from the European countries and stuff. It was somebody named Yurai...something, not sure if I spelled it right. But he was a good king and all.

But then my uncle told me that his kingdom was overrun by some evil creatures called the Ingharians, some snake-like monsters with masks for heads. Weird, huh?

Of course I didn't believe him. But he made me read some dusty ol' book that had a picture of my family's symbol on it - a phoenix - and it said that they were real and that the symbol was Yurai's symbol, too. That made me sorta believe.

But I gotta go. Roland wants to see me do my sword trick.
