Sion sat in the front row watching the Opera. He had always found them to be quite boring. He didn't know why he came perhaps it was of all the people you could meet. Yes one could meet very interesting people at the Opera. He had almost fell asleep an outburst of hand claps could be heard. So act one was done now for the other 3 acts.

He tried very hard to stay awake and started to look around him. Others looked more focused on the singing then him. But then again maybe they was sleeping with their eyes open. That would have to be a trick he would need to learn.

Wesley had no idea what to do or where to go.

So he went to the opera. More or less. He had no money to spare for a ticket, so he stood in a hall between seats.

At least no one will see me here.

The man's hair had grown out a couple of inches during his absence. He had recently invested in a black duster and a fedora, which he wore now. They were not his style, but it helped to keep a low profile.

Alexandrea walked in quietly with her arms folded over her stomach. She had come to the opera after the river because she just needed a place to relax. The sun wasn't too high in the sky, and by time the opera was over she could make it home safely. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ears as she sat in the middle section so that she could see the stage well.

Alex crossed her legs, and had to look twice in a certain direction. She could have sworn she saw Wesley, but she was sure that her eyes must have been playing tricks on her. Had to be. Alex looked back to the stage, her eyes still slightly red and puffy from crying at the river.

Wesley didn't have to share the same doubts as Alexandrea. He had been scanning the audience for people he might know, and could actually see quite well from where he was despite the darkness.

Yes, that was definitely her, all right. For him, seeing her wasn't nearly as unusual as it would be for her to see him. Of course not, she lived here!
Seeing her again made him want to forget about hiding, whatever the consequences might be. (He guessed they would probably be pretty bad.)
All the same, he ignored the common sense that told him to leave right then.

But she looked upset. That wasn't good. Not at all.

Still, there was nothing that could be done about it now. If he approached her, she would be upset. She would hate him. He didn't want to create a scene during the opera.
Or maybe he was just rationalizing again, because for his entire life, all he ever had done was run away from his problems.

Alex could barely stand it. The man she saw looked like Wesley, but what if he weren't? She would look like a fool going up there and saying something when it wasn't even the person she hoped it was. Alex thought she could have just been imagining him there, her mind playing tricks on her or something like that.

What could she do?
Did Alex have enough control to be around Wesley under her new disposition? She thought that she could try, but she was unsure of what might happen. Another thing that crossed her mind was what if it was him, and she missed her opportunity?

Alex wiped her eyes, dciding that she had really never been one to be nervous about anything. Because her row was basically empty, she had no one to step over, and that made things much easier on her. Alex walked down to where Wesley was, trying to keep her cool. The closer she got the better she could see that it was Wesley, just with longer hair.

'Pretend you hate him, pretend you hate him.' Alex thought to herself. But as Alex finally reached her destination she bit her lip softly. "Wesley?" Alex said softly.

"Wesley?"

So much for keeping a low profile. He truly had not planned to reveal himself this early on. Why hadn't he left? What would he say? Nothing? Should he walk out? No, that would be terrible.
He turned, planning to say exactly what he had dictated over and over again in his mind.

"Alexandrea..."

Then he saw Alexandrea, and he lost it. He forgot it all, just like that.

"I..."

That was all he could stay. He just stood there, watching her, mouth still slightly open, awaiting the words that wouldn't come. He was unsuccesfully attempting to hold back tears, and was thankful for his hat and the darkness.

Wesley didn't understand how, but he was extremely happy, extremely sad, extremely guilty, and nervous as hell, all at the same time.

"Alexandrea..."

Alex really hoped that he wasn't about to give her some excuse about leaving. She didn't want to hear an excuse... all Alex wanted was to give him a big hug and a kiss, and have things be normal again. But she couldn't do all of those things. Only one, and she wasn't so sure she needed to give him a hug.

"I...

Tears were on the verge of falling. Alex had been crying a lot since Wesley had left, but now he was back. There was no reason to cry...right? The moment almost seemed awkward because she didn't know what to say to him, and he wasn't finishing his statement.

Suddenly Alex was just unable to control her tears. She shook her head and wiped the salty tears away. Alex wanted to bring up the fact that he had once again left her, but she couldn't do that to him... not in public. She quietly lifted her left hand to show him that she still wore the ring. Sure there had been times when she wanted to throw it away and never look at it again, but she had always picked it back up in the end.

"Does this even mean anything anymore?" Alex asked before she could even form a decent thought. She knew that probably wasn't the best thing that she could say, but it was the best she could come up with. She wouldn't publicly humiliate him, and embracing him without and explination was out of the question.

"Does this even mean anything anymore?"

Wesley was having trouble thinking straight, but tried as much as possible to come up with a decent sounding response. In the mean time, he took a handkerchief from his pocket and hesitantly stepped forward before using it to wipe away her tears.
He didn't know how she would react to this, but he didn't care.

"It means... so much to me... that you still have it," Wesley said slowly. Still, he couldn't shake the possibility that she just might leave him right then. It would hurt so badly when she rejected him.
"I just... don't know what to say. Words can't make up for what I must have put you through. Oh, Alexandrea, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!"

He felt he was about to lose his composure completely and was forced to look in another direction.

Alex let him wipe her tears away. It was something that seemed to be the way that it should be, and Alex wouldn't stop him if he wanted to do that. After all, she was tried of rubbing her eyes til they were red.

"It means... so much to me... that you still have it. I just... don't know what to say. Words can't make up for what I must have put you through. Oh, Alexandrea, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!"

"No, Wesley. I don't think words can make up for it." Alex said softly. She placed her cold hand on his cheek, "This time though... I'm sorry... because your sorries aren't going to cut it." Alex wanted to take that back more than anything. Wesley was the only thing that she wanted, and she couldn't even have him. "But please... don't think I am doing this because I don't love you, Wes... I really do, but... something has happened, and..." she paused.

How could she say this to him? Alex knew it would hhurt him more than ever, but she had to do it. There was no way she could marry him now that she was a vampire.
"Wes, I think I need to give this back to you." Alex said in a slightly broken voice as she pulled the ring off her finger. "You wouldn't want to marry me now, Wesley... trust me." she added as she placed the ring in his hand and closed his fingers over it.

Wesley stood there for a long time, staring at his hand. So, this was it, then. He had known that this would happen, but somewhere, he realized, he had a small doubt that it wouldn't. He was having a difficult time comprehending what was really happening.

All he could think of was how he had to get out of there. He wouldn't let her see him break down. He didn't want her to know how much she had hurt him. It would make this even worse for her. She didn't deserve that.

"Alexandrea, I love you," he managed to say meaningfully.
Wesley slowly walked past her and out of the theater. He never looked up.

"Alexandrea, I love you,"

What? Alex wasn't sure that she had heard what she had really heard, but when Wesley turned and began to walk away she knew that what she had actually heard was goodbye. It was for the best though... for the best. Alex wasn't even sure what that meant anymore.

But Alex did know that what was left of her soul just walked out that door, and it was all her fault. A small sigh escaped her lips. It was time to see if she could live without him... at least when he was away she knew that she could have him back when he came back... not she didn't have him at all. With her hands crossed over her stomach she walked towards her house.

Edmond found himself here, mainly looking for some entertainment to take his mind off the issues that were plaguing the back of his mind. He had settled near the front, gave a nod to the others around him while he crossed his legs casually, leaned his elbow on the arm rest, and cupped his chin. It was a ungentleman-like gesture that he normally would only do in the privacy of his home but didn't mind for now.

His eyes watched the colors of fabrics unfold before him for the first scene. He was glad he understand the language while the female actress took the stage singing loudly, echoing throughout the hall. The voice seemed to sooth him while he listened, contemplating his decisions.

He could leave again, but who knew what would happen. They were sure to follow his traces. Especially with the large amounts of shipments coming to this port more than normal and they were barrels. No one would believe that it was just alcohol for one household unless he staged owning a bar, or private club for members but then he would have to double his shipments.

A few weeks ago he had been delivered a letter from a man that seemed to know who he was and where he was. Most likely a messenger from those that had been sent from what was left of the court that supported the prince. It was still going to be a hard task and may need for him to take another leave to try and finish business or come to some sort of compromise. Perhaps the Captain he had hired long ago would be of use to him.

He still hadn't given the man what he had promised him but who knew what he could do. If he did that, it would be hard to contain him while the thirst took over him after those long days of pain. If he played his cards right, he would be able to have a plenty of supply for the both of them on board of a private ship or at least the Captain's ship. It was hard to tell.

Suddenly pushing that to the back of his mind, he sat there and decided to enjoy himself before he would speak to his wife.
